author visits

I am always delighted to be asked to visit schools, libraries or reading groups, and talk to children or adults. I believe fervently that author visits are important in encouraging reading for pleasure, which in turn fires the imagination, broadens horizons and increases vocabulary, as well as stimulating the desire to write stories yourself.

What I Offer

The talk might cover how I was first published, how I get my ideas. I talk about my books and the inspiration behind them, my typical day as a writer, what’s good (and bad!) about writing and offer some top tips for your own writing.

I also include a short reading. It might be from the typescript of a novel that’s not yet out. I usually finish with a question and answer session.

I can include a mini writing workshop, if wanted and if there is time. Please click on Writing Workshops to find out more.

Where will I go?

I live in Suffolk (near Southwold) and in London (Mortlake). In London I can travel almost anywhere. In Suffolk I would prefer venues within a 25 mile radius but am willing to consider going further afield!

Numbers

I prefer to talk to no more than 40 people at a time.

Notice

Please try to give me as much notice as possible (not less than 3 weeks).

Fees and Bookselling

I am happy to come to individual arrangements on fees. What I would ask is that my travelling expenses are paid and that my books are ordered in advance and are for sale through a local bookseller (if this is difficult I can bring stock myself). It’s helpful if a letter has gone home with the children about my visit and any money is exchanged beforehand.

Publicity Material

This can be sent to you in advance.
